STEPS FROM
THE WILD

WHAT IS THIS ?
Steps From the Wild is a photographic project born around Monsures, in those everyday landscapes often passed through without a second thought, where wildlife thrives in the shadows and silence. Fields, hedgerows, edges of woods, and paths form a territory that appears familiar, yet is rich in a discreet and often invisible biodiversity, made up of elusive animals and fragile ecosystems. This project aims to observe and reveal these fleeting moments, inviting us to take a closer look at this living, discreet, and vibrant world, present just a few steps from our homes.
For Charlie, Steps From the Wild represents his first real photographic exploration rooted in his local environment. Discovered in childhood, these nearby landscapes have become, over the years, a privileged space for observation, marked by significant encounters with deer, foxes, birds of prey, and other discreet inhabitants. This project testifies to a deep and evolving connection with this local nature, and to a desire to reveal the fragile beauty of an ordinary, often overlooked, yet essential wilderness.

In this video, Charlie shares an up-close encounter with the black woodpecker and invites viewers to discover a rare moment in its wild life. He reveals the fruits of more than 35 hours spent lying in wait under a camouflage net in early spring, during a key period: when the young birds are being fed. Available on his YouTube channel, this video provides a better understanding of the patience, observation and intensity of moments experienced in the field, at the heart of the intimacy of living creatures.
